Welcome
Welcome Vintage Base Ball cranks to the Batesville Lumbermen Website. The Lumbermen were officially established as a Vintage Base Ball Team in the 2008 season.
Batesville Lumbermen Defeat Blues in Season Finale On October 1st, the Batesville Lumbermen hosted the Indianapolis Blues at Liberty Park as part of the Batesville Casket Company picnic. The match “game” was played in front of a large crowd of cranks “fans”, many who had never experienced Vintage Base Ball before. This match, like every match played against the Blues was a classic. Defensive plays highlighted the match and while offense was at a premium. The Blues scored one ace “run” in the first inning only to see the Lumbermen respond with one of their own. Defensively both teams were shut down from scoring over the next four innings. The cranks were shown how good defensively Vintage players are in the 6th inning. With a runner on first and third the Blues striker “batter” lined a ball to center that Todd “Turkey” Lecher fielded on the hop for an out. He then fired the ball to the infield where Jeff “Blue” Bolchalk turned and threw a perfect one-hop to Mark “Spider” Stenger at the plate. “Spider” took the throw and applied the tag to the sliding runner just before he touched the plate to complete the double play. The Blues, however, tallied two aces in the top of the 6th inning. Steve “Buzz” Shepherd led of the bottom of the 6th with a single, followed by singles from Mark “Spider” Stenger and Tim “Sparky” Fullenkamp. Chris “Moonlight” Casablanca, Todd “Turkey” Lecher, and Eric “Rocky Top” Kuntz all singled which resulted in three aces for the Lumbermen. With a 4 – 3 lead the Lumbermen defense held the Blues scoreless the rest of the match to record the victory. The Lumbermen finish their season with a 14 – 6 record. The Lumbermen appreciate all those in attendance who cheer us on, and look forward to your return along with many others in the future. For more information and facts regarding the History of Vintage Base Ball, go to History section in the About Us section of the website.
